DEFA is a national non-profit organization comprised of a team of highly successful entrepreneurs, sharing the passion to transform the lives of young people by providing opportunities for self development and achievement.

The Driver Education Foundation of America partners with corporate, government, public, private and other non-profit organizations to improve the driving standards and awareness of young individuals on a national level.

The passion of the Foundation's leaders also extends into the corporate arena where the need for professional drivers is essential to keep the wheels of industry moving for our growing population and economy.

Meet Our Board of Directors

President Melody Gullett Founder of DEFA, with 30 years of experience in driver education internationally. Owned and operated the largest, independent driver training school in S.Africa. Developed several driver training programs, including an online defensive driving course, trained instructors and specialized in evaluating & teaching the physically disabled to drive. Initiated Limited Licensed Driving Schools in Georgia. Melody is passionate about educating individuals on driver awareness and safety behind the wheel.
Vice President David Allen, M.S. David C. allen, M.S. is president of Tru North Advisors where he specializes in growing organizations and individuals. He has 20+ years of entrepreneurial experience where he has grown his own companies as well as positively affected the lives and careers of other along the way. He specializes in delivery Keynote and featured presentations for national and regional meetings as well as coaching of CEOs and level C executives.
Secretary Karl Logan A career traffic safety educator with 24 years experience, ranging from the licensing and traffic safety sections of the NCDMV, to directing one of the nation's largest driver education programs. He currently is a consultant specializing in online delivery solutions for driver education with Costech
Treasurer Steve Phillips Steve is the Traffic Safety Manager for AAA Carolinas and overseeing traffic safety programs, driver improvement instructor classes and AAA Approved Driving Schools. He has been a dedicated AAA Driver Improvement Program Instructor and Leader for over 10 years. Certified as a Driver Training Instructor for the US Training Center & serves on the of boards of North Carolina’s MADD, the South Carolina Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (SCDTSEA), South East Region Association - Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (SERA DTSEA).
